Synchronicity - Is there Something to It???
“Synchronicity” may seem to be a common enough notion, but are you aware this concept is not the brain child of James Redfield, author of The Celestine Prophecy? Rather, it is a word coined by none other than Swiss psychologist Carl Jung more than 100 years ago to describe experiences perceived as coincident that are not due merely to chance.
“Where it is plain that no causal connection can be demonstrated between two events, but where a meaningful relationship nevertheless exists between (them), awholly different type of principle is likely to be operating.” Jung believed that many experiences perceived as coincidence occur as a result of the connection between the mind and the world of perception. Plainly put, it is the experience of having two (or more) things happen simultaneously in a manner that is meaningful to the person or persons experiencing them. It differs from coincidence in that synchronicity implies not just a happenstance, but an underlying pattern or dynamic that is being expressed through meaningful relationships or events.
In New Age terminology, synchronicities are people, places or events that your soul attracts into your life – to help you evolve or to place emphasis on something going on in your life. The more consciously aware you become of how your soul creates, the higher your frequency goes and the faster your soul manifests. Each day your life will become filled with meaningful coincidences that you have attracted or created in the grid of your experiences in the physical.
Not all synchronicities are positive, so do be careful. Sometimes these lead to learning lessons – when you are deceived into thinking a particular path is the one to be pursued at that moment in time. This is not always the case. If you are a drama person, for instance, you will attract equally dysfunctional people and events. You must look at the bigger picture of the synchronicity, not at the actual event, but look at the underlying facts to be sure you know why you attracted that person/situation into your life.
Synchronistic events are not independent of the observer, since the observer’s unique history is precisely what gives the synchronistic event meaning for the observer. The event will appear to be a meaningless random event to anyone else without the unique prior history that correlates to the event. Synchronicities occur, Jung theorized, when a strong need arises in the psyche of an individual. He described three types of events: the coinciding of a thought or feeling with an outside event; a dream, vision or premonition of something that then happens in the future; and a dream or vision that coincides with an event occurring at a distance.
Synchronicities are sometimes regarded as signs, and some people consciously use them to make decisions in life. James Redfield says that all coincidences are significant because they point the way to an unfolding of our personal destiny.
Whatever they are- pseudo science or a wink from the Cosmos – we have all encountered situations, synchronicities, that may be considered magical or mystical:
You meet someone who interests you and touches your soul. It is a synchronistichappeningthat the person seems to come into your life over and over again. You connect with that person. In some cases the karma between two people is positive, but in many cases you have attracted that person into your life for a learning lesson whether you are aware of it or not.
It is synchronistic when an inner experience such as a dream, vision, or other form of déjà vu prepares you for the physical event.
You think of someone for the first time in years, and run into them a few hours later.
On a back street in a foreign country, you bump into a college roommate.
You have just received your last check from unemployment when suddenly a job comes along.
You walk into a book store not knowing what to buy and the book you need falls from a shelf and practically hits you over the head.
You finally end a bad relationship and immediately another partner comes into your life.
