According to myth, the gods walked freely between the three worlds of existence. As the ages changed and religions took hold, these various deities were worshipped in the form of statuary and idols. In Hinduism, there is the trinity of Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer and regenerator and their female counterparts - Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati which make up the feminine balance in the creation. Vishnu and Shiva incarnate themselves into other forms, as human, animal or other living beings to help the earth in times of crisis.
